When you’re on holiday, you don’t expect to get into trouble with the law. But unfortunately things don’t always go as planned.
If you have been arrested or have had to appear in court whilst on holiday it may seem that you case is straightforward. You may have been interviewed, released and think that all is well.
Unfortunately, international capture mandates (mandato de captura) are very frequent and people are often being forced to return to Portugal to face trial.
A ‘mandato de captura’ means the authorities can undertake further action such as having you arrested, taking your passport and requiring you to return to Portugal.
When we go on holiday we usually feel relaxed and ready to let our hair down. However, it’s not unusual for bad things to happen. We often hear about people getting arrested in other countries. And this is something that can happen to anyone, even you.
If this happens to you, immediate legal advice is essential. It is very likely that you will be able to give Power of Attorney so that you can be heard in your absence.
